East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely black stone pendant in the form of a crouching, anthropomorphic figure carrying a disc on its back with a pair of abstract objects near the top. Likely inspired by the archaic stone carvings of Neolithic China, the sculpture features a suspension hole at the center of the disc and another between the objects on top, allowing it to be suspended and worn as an amulet. Size: 1.8" L x 0.5" W x 2.5" H (4.6 cm x 1.3 cm x 6.4 cm)
Provenance: private Thousand Oaks, California, USA collection, acquired December 10, 2004; ex-Terry Dale collection
