East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An elegant urn made of brass with colorful champleve enamel decorating the exterior. The vessel rests on a flat base with a small ring foot. The walls swell outward to a broad shoulder near the top. At the center is a circular opening with a short rim that leads into the deep interior. The surface has a textured, diamond-shaped pattern incised into the brass ground, and atop is the champleve enamel in hues blue, red, yellow, pink, white, and green. The body of the lovely vessel is adorned with four registers of arching geometric shapes around the base and mouth as well as two registers of stylized vines and flowers across the body.
