**Originally Listed At $750**
Southeast Asia, Burma / Myanmar, ca. 19th century. A fascinating brass Kyeezee or gong of triangular form with two flat sides and a horizontal drill hole near the top for suspension. Resembling the silhouette of a robed Buddha sitting cross-legged in meditation, the musical instrument is vertically symmetrical with a slightly rounded bottom, curled up corners, six protruding decorative tabs forming four tiers, and a rounded cap. A message, likely in Burmese, is engraved on one side. Often used for a meditation, the Kyeezee produces a piercing bell-like tone when struck and a warbling effect when spun. Certainly a unique example from Burmese / Myanmarese culture! Please note that the Lucite stand is for photography purposes only. Size: 15.75" W x 10.75" H (40 cm x 27.3 cm)
The “Kyeezee” is a triangular shaped piece of bronze. Often decorated, carved, and quite thick in cross-section. It is suspended on a cord at its mid-point. When it is struck, it produces resonant tones! Kyeezees are often used in meditation.
