Europe, United Kingdom, England, ca. 1830s CE. A fine percussion pistol of a petite, easily-concealable size with a thick handle carved from espresso-hued wood. The iron box-lock fits snugly against the carved handle groove with two small screws and is intricately engraved with flowing foliate motifs on all sides. The hammer on top has a curved thumb rest with a textured oval for easy cocking, and the machined octagonal barrel has eight short threads near the muzzle which increase the accuracy of the fired projectile. Beneath the box-lock is a foldaway trigger which drops out when the hammer is fully cocked. A small brass shield is inlaid into the exterior curve of the handle, and a drilled cavity in the handle's end is covered with an iron insignia and is meant to hold a single extra bullet. A proof mark with "ELG" from the Liege Proof House is present on the outermost edge of the box-lock. Size: 6.5" L x 3.75" H (16.5 cm x 9.5 cm).
