North America, United States, New York, ca. 1859 to 1866 CE. This is a fine Merwin & Bray single shot .22 caliber rimfire pocket pistol with a swing-out octagonal barrel and brass frame. The octagonal barrel has a single blade sight and is stamped, "MERWIN & BRAY / NEW YORK." The barrel pivots to the right for loading, with a push release underneath the brass forestock. The gun also features a spur trigger and polished wood grip. This is the perfect pocket-sized weapon for concealed carry and was a popular weapon during the American Civil War. Scratches and nicks as expected with age and use. Stable fissure to wood stock. Barrel pivots easily outward. Hammer and trigger work but are stiff and require some force. Gun has not been tested for firing functionality. Maker mark is clearly stamped on barrel.
