North America, United States, ca. 1933. A very rare cast iron coin bank depicting Fort Dearborn and created as a souvenir for the Chicago World's Fair. Stamped "Souvenir of Chicago Worlds Fair 1833-1933 Fort Dearborn" on one side. Fort Dearborn was a US fort built in 1803 in what is Chicago, Illinois today - beside the Chicago River. Captain John Whistler directed the Fort's construction. It was named in honor of the US Secretary of War, Henry Dearborn. Though the original fort was destroyed in the Battle of Fort Dearborn during the War of 1812, a new fort on the same site replaced it in 1816, and the fort was decommissioned by 1837. Following this, the widening of the Chicago River in 1855 and a fire in 1857 led to the loss of some sections. Finally, the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed what remained of the historic fort. Today, the site of Fort Dearborn is a Chicago Landmark, located in the Michigan–Wacker Historic District. Size: 4.25" W x 4.375" H (10.8 cm x 11.1 cm)

Condition
There is a small fissure on the back side, probably the result of a casting flaw. Some oxidation on the underside panel with keyhole. Missing key, but screw through slotted panel on underside could presumably be unscrewed to open. Generally quite nice and showing warm age patina.
