American Pastel Portrait of Gertrude Lloyd, 1926. Signed and dated on lower right and set in gilded frame. A striking portrait of an elegant woman named Gertrude Lloyd (ca. 1870 - 1950s) set under glass in an impressive, lavishly gilded frame. Clearly, a woman of refined taste, Mrs. Lloyd wears a wrap of diaphanous periwinkle blue and silky white fabric as well as a double strand of lustrous pearls around her neck and matching pearl earrings. A vision of style and grace - with her silver tresses pulled back in a lovely updo, softly rouged cheeks, and coral pink lips - she poses with her torso in profile, one elegantly manicured hand held to her chest, and her attractive visage turned in dramatic fashion to gaze out at the viewer with engaging deep brown eyes. Complementing the portrait is an opulent gilded frame that is finely embellished with elaborate ornamentation featuring flowing garlands of floral blossoms and foliage. Size of sight view: 29.5" L x 24.25" W (74.9 cm x 61.6 cm) Size of frame: 35.7" L x 30.625" W (90.7 cm x 77.8 cm)

Condition
This pastel portrait has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very nice condition. Signature and date are on lower right. Signature is difficult to decipher, but date is 1926. The frame has some expected surface wear, nicks/chips, fissures, a small area of loss/repair at the upper left corner that has been touched up with pigment, and a few cracks/losses to high-pointed areas of the ornamentation. Frame is fitted with a suspension wire which we would recommend replacing with new wire. Otherwise, glass is intact, and frame is quite attractive with extensive gilding and ornamentation.
