Northern Europe, Northern England, Sheffield, ca. 1916 CE. An elegant silver sugar castor made by Walker and Hall and presenting a piriform body with a wide hip, an attenuated neck, and an octagonal rim snuggly fit with a tall, domed lid, all sitting upon an octagonal foot. Capped by a knob-like finial, the gorgeous lid is adorned with swirling, arabesque apertures through which one can sprinkle sugar. A series of 4 silver marks is displayed below the rim: a crown to indicate it was made in England, a left-facing lion passant for the silver standard, a lowercase "x" for the year 1916, and a right-pointing, triangular flag with the letters "W" and "H" for the silversmith company Walker and Hall.
