North America, United States, New York, ca. 1911 CE. A blue wool felt jacket with brass buttons and shoulder tassels. This jacket was for the 7th militia regiment which was part of the national guard. This jacket would have been a parade or ceremonial outfit and certainly not a combat piece. The front chest panels are beautifully detailed with embroidery and brass buttons embossed with eagles. The interior has the original ID tag sewn to the neck with "Brooks Brothers Broadway, New York" printed at the top with the owner's name, date, and issue number hand printed below. The name is illegible, but the date is "10/26/11" and the issue number is "9336." A wonderful piece of American military history! Size: 34" L x 16" W (86.4 cm x 40.6 cm)
The 7th Regiment was established in 1806 as conflicts between the United States and the British Navy escalated in the New York Harbor. The regiment became an infantry unit during the American Civil War, however they were comprised mainly of New York’s elite socialites and gained the names "Silk Stocking" and “Blue-Bloods." Despite the class distinction, they were an effective military regiment that gained distinction and served overseas during WWI and WWII.
