- Lot Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Rattanakosin period, ca. late 18th to 19th century CE. A fine gilded bronze Buddha, wearing a beautiful costume with elaborate details, and seated upon a similarly magnificent throne/pedestal with his legs crossed and his hands placed in his lap in the Dhyana Mudra used for meditation and deep concentration. The Buddha presents with a tranquil visage and characteristically long ears to represent the wealth of his previous life as Prince Gautama, as they have been stretched from wearing large earrings. In this example, he is shown after his enlightenment, as is evidenced by his large ushnisha, the pointed projection from the top of his head that symbolizes his newfound knowledge. This sculpture is a quintessential example of the Rattanakosin style with its flame-like motif emerging from the ushnisha. Size: 5.125" W x 8.375" H (13 cm x 21.3 cm)

#157361Expected surface wear with minor losses to gilding as shown. Missing some circular glass inlays on the throne, though a few remain. Minor abrasions to lotus throne and small loss to periphery of the lower back edge of it as shown. Nice red lacquer remaining on top of throne as well. Interior core remaining as well.Condition
