Middle East, Islamic World, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A fine collection of 7 intaglios carved from a variety of colorful stones. First is a circular garnet with a crescent moon and stars on each face. Second is an opaque green-hued stone octagon, perhaps an emerald, with script incised on one face. Next are two ovoid carnelian cabochons with nice orange hues as well as a red-orange ovoid carnelian cabochon. A petite rectangular cabochon is carved from gray hardstone has script incised on every available surface. The largest intaglio is carved from amethyst and has beveled side walls; the purple color is visible when held next to a light. Size of largest (amethyst rectangle): 0.75" L x 0.375" W (1.9 cm x 1 cm)

Condition
Repair to larger orange carnelian oval with resurfacing and very light adhesive residue along break lines; remaining 6 pieces are intact and very good. Small hardstone intaglio has petite chip to one corner, and amethyst rectangle has stable hairline fissure along one end. Great lustrous surfaces and nice preservation to incised script.
