Near Eastern, Islamic culture, ca. late 18th to 19th century CE. A beautiful brass skimmer presenting a shallow, discoid bowl with an undulating periphery and dozens of annular perforations attached to a lengthy, hinged handle that flares toward the end and is capped by a triangular finial. The lovely implement features a petite square stopper that moves up and down the handle, allowing it to either swing freely or be held in place. The interior of the bowl is intricately adorned with a symmetrical swirling vegetal decoration, while the handle boasts a minimalist design of horizontal and diagonal striations. Likely used in a kitchen or an apothecary, the end of the handle is pierced, allowing the implement to be suspended when stored. Size: 10.2" L x 4.1" W (25.9 cm x 10.4 cm)
