South Asia, India, possibly Gujarat or Kashmir, Mughal Period, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A stunning manuscript page of laid paper displaying 15 lines of Urdu script on 1 side and a vibrantly painted image of a man and woman, likely royals, in an elaborate setting on the other. Below 2 lines of Urdu text, the pair reclines with legs intwined as they gaze into each other's eyes. A building can be seen to the left, while a luscious landscape of rolling hills and a river is shown on the right. All is densely decorated with floral, vegetal, and geometric designs. Condition
Repaired with restoration and repainting in some areas visible on the script side of the page. Some small perforations to paper. Otherwise, very nice with great remaining pigments. Fit with modern matte and protective plastic cover. Has not been examined outside of plastic cover.
