Northwestern Europe, England, ca. 18th century CE. A handsome percussion blunderbuss or musketoon with a wooden stock, iron barrel, and brass fittings. The lockplate is manufactured by Tower and stamped with the British crown emblem. The broad cylindrical barrel is muzzle loading with a smooth bore. Below the barrel is an iron ramrod that fits into a housing with a hinged guide at the tip that reduces the risk of dropping and losing the ramrod, convenient, but hazardous since one's hand was positioned in front of the muzzle while reloading. The British crown emblem is stamped in several areas, including the barrel, lock plate, and backstock. This is a fine example of a rare percussion blunderbuss. Size: 30.5" L x 4" W (77.5 cm x 10.2 cm); bore: 0.7" W (1.8 cm)
