East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, late Daoguang to Xianfeng period, ca. 1845 to 1865 CE. A beautiful porcelain plate with a squat footed base and a wide rim. The topside is densely adorned with a palette of enameled polychrome decorations presenting a central circle displaying a bird resting next to chrysanthemum flowers. Around the central imagery are four triangular panels with vine-form borders, each depicting either a group of standing or sitting individuals wearing colorful robes, or a whimsical natural scene with birds, butterflies, flowers, and leaves. The bright coloration and intricate decorations make this a truly stunning example from the Qing Dynasty! The plate is displayed upon a pedestal brass base with gilding. The base frame consists of a rounded rim with three supporting arms that are comprised of abstract bird heads holdings rings in their mouths. The legs are formed by three elephant heads and their trunks. A whimsical stand that beautifully compliments the fabulous plate! Size: 14.5" Diameter x 5.5" H (36.8 cm x 14 cm)
