East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period, ca. 1750 to 1795 century CE. A gorgeous ensemble of 12 porcelain Chinese Export plates, all of octagonal form and impressively adorned with a rococo design known as "Double Peacock Dinner Service" in lustrous gilding and vibrant glaze in "Famille Rose" hues of emerald, lime green, magenta, red, yellow, pink, orange, and black. Each plate features a lovely central tondo of 2 peacocks in a stony landscape surrounded by several large blooming flowers. A fleur-de-lis border surrounds the tondo, as the periphery of the plate features 4 swirling floral motifs and an outside border of abstract designs. Size (all the same): 8.875" W x 1" H (22.5 cm x 2.5 cm)
Plates like these examples were made in China and sold by the East India Company. Only about 5,000 dishes of the "Double Peacock" design still exist throughout the world and they are specially collected in Brazil, Portugal, and England. Originally intended for imperial use, this service is known as a "traveler" since it was made in China, then sold in Portugal where some were then brought to Brazil when John VI, then Prince of Portugal, moved to Rio de Janeiro due to his fear of the Napoleonic Wars.
Pieces of the "Double Peacock" service are featured in several museums, such as the Nathaniel Russel House Museum in Charleston, South Carolina, the Historical National Museum of Brazil, and the Ema Klabin Foundation in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A collection of 15 "Double Peacock" dishes hammered for $41,825 as lot 38 in Live Auction 1399 "Property from the Collection of Nelson Grimaldi Seabra" on October 21st, 2003.

Some minor nicks and chips to peripheries and pitting to interiors. Some have light fading to glaze. Otherwise, all are excellent with beautiful pigments. Nice craquelure to glaze on a few.
