North America, United States, New England, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A fabulous storage container that is hand-turned and whittled from whale bone into an elegant piece. The body rests on a stemmed neck and broad foot that is decorated with incised, concentric circles. A scalloped rim surrounds the base of the globular body with is attaches to the stem. Bullseye motifs are incised into the globular body, and a scalloped rim encircles the narrow opening. The mouth is threaded and the turned finial knob lid fits perfectly into the mouth. This is an exceptional piece that is both elegant and functional for storing items that needed to be kept protected and dry. Size: 2" Diameter x 4" H (5.1 cm x 10.2 cm)
