A student of Piranesi, Luigi Mayer was a watercolorist and draughtsman renowned as the most accurate delineator of the Near East before David Roberts, who produced the monumental volumes "The Holy Land" (1842) and "Views in ancient Egypt and Nubia" (1846). Overall good / fair condition. Bound in modern leather cover with gilt text. Scuffs, staining, bending, and tearing to cover. Some foxing, staining, and light wrinkling to pages, but images are very clear and mostly unaffected, aside from fading to titles / descriptive text. Bookplate of Neville family crest and Stuart / Scotland motto on interior of front cover.
