- Lot Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 17th to 19th century CE. A remarkable, life-size brass Buddha hand in the traditional Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of protection with the fingers extended and held together as the hand points upwards. Buddhist hand symbols are often presented in specific styles to represent different aspects of Buddha and Buddhist values. This gesture is also called "Gesture of Fearlessness" or "blessing" or "fearless mudra." Displaying a narrow wrist and a small palm with elongated fingers, the hand features skillful details, such as petite, pointed fingernails and an elaborately adorned bangle that decorates the wrist. Size: 2.875" W x 5.625" H (7.3 cm x 14.3 cm); 8.25" H (21 cm) on included custom stand.
