Europe, Germany, ca. 1618 through 1626 CE. Four original German hand-colored copper plate engravings that feature the surnames of families accompanied by inscriptions and imagery that capture the different seasons of the year as well as fruits and botanicals grown by that particular family. Clockwise from the upper left: "Winter und Somer Grun" meaning 'Evergreen' with a rendering of a conifer tree representing Der Bezade family dated 1618 (upper left engraving); "Bibt gutten Schatten" meaning 'Gives Good Shade' with a depiction of a huge pumpkin or gourd representing the Dicte family dated 1626 (upper right engraving); "Im Nafren" with a rendering of a fruit tree representing the Bertendige family dated 1621 (lower right engraving); and "Zum Durft" with a depiction of a cut melon representing the Erfrfchende family dated 1622 (lower left engraving). Custom matted and framed - the frame presenting sumptuous gilded beaded bands bordering the 'crackled' patterned rosewood hued frame. Size: 31.25" L x 27.125" W (79.4 cm x 68.9 cm)
