Europe, Netherlands, Delft, ca. 17th century CE. A wonderful pottery tile featuring the image of a military drummer facing left, all adorned in hues of blue, brown, and green on a white ground. Standing in a grassy field with a flock of birds flying above, the minimalist figure is dressed in a doublet, hose, breeches, and a helmet, with a sword and drum strapped to his side as he carries 2 drumsticks. The musical scene is enveloped by a blue border with white trefoils adorning each corner. Size: 5.5" L x 5.5" W (14 cm x 14 cm)

Condition
Loss to minor area of glaze in upper right corner and chipping to glaze on peripheries. Stable fissure on verso. Expected light abrasions, commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with nice remaining pigments.
