Western Europe, Spain, Renaissance Period, ca. 16th century CE. A wonderful double-sided vellum page of massive size from a manuscript of the Catholic Church. Adorned in black, blue, and red ink, the lovely page contains 11 lines of Gothic Latin script on each side with a pair of parallel red striations forming a border around the text. Each line is delineated by an additional slender red horizontal striation, while a petite 6-pointed star adorns the end of each sentence. Size (of page): 14.25" W x 20.25" H (36.2 cm x 51.4 cm); Size (of matting): 20" W x 26" H (50.8 cm x 66 cm)
The text on this page is congruent with that of Psalm 138 and roughly translates to, "you greatly emboldened me. May all the kings of the earth praise you, Lord, when they hear what you have decreed. May they sing of the ways of the Lord, for the glory of the Lord is great. Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me."

Condition
Has not been examined outside of matting and plastic. Small tear to 1 lower corner. Some staining and bending, commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, very nice with good remains of ink.
