Western Europe, Germany, ca. late 16th to early 17th century CE; North America, Western United States, ca. 19th century CE. This is a fine Western Europe wheellock carabine, comprised of a full wood stock and iron octagonal barrel with a smooth bore. A rear and front sight are fitted on both ends of the barrel, and along the underside is a ramrod groove and brass fitting before the brass hand rest and trigger guard. The iron lockplate has a wheel axel, spring, hammer, and a brass sliding pan cover cast as the face of a man that still slides freely. Included is a 19th century leather pouch for carrying cartridge charges, which is in remarkably great condition! The flap lifts to reveal the 8 individual wooden tubes each capped with a leather plug/lid. The front interior panel is studded with nickel-silver tacks. Leather cords and a pair of straps on the exterior enabled this to be worn on a belt. Size (carbine): 44.5" L x 5" W (113 cm x 12.7 cm); (bore): 0.5" W (1.3 cm); (leather pouch): 11" L x 3" W x 4" H (27.9 cm x 7.6 cm x 10.2 cm)
