Western / Central Europe, maybe Germany or Switzerland, ca. late 16th to 17th century CE. An attractive iron pike comprised of a conical socket, a rhomboid blade, and a crescent-shaped butt. The wide socket narrows to a cuboid spike which tapers to a sharp point. A drill hole pierces through one side of the socket for attachment. A unique and fascinating weapon! Size: 20.4" L x 10.2" W (51.8 cm x 25.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-Sedona, Arizona, USA collection; ex-private German collection, found in the Black Sea region

Condition
Blade and butt have been reattached. Top spike may have been reattached as well. Expected surface wear with nicks and abrasions, commensurate with age and use. Losses to surface in some areas. Surface enveloped in a glossy substance, likely to act as a stabilization material to mitigate the spread of oxidation. Otherwise, very nice with rich patina.
