Northern Europe, England, London, ca. 1679 CE. Written by Francis Beaumont (1584 to 1616) and John Fletcher (1579 to 1635). A splendid and sizeable codex entitled "Fifty Comedies and Tragedies All in One Volume," written by the famous playwright duo Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher and printed in 1679 in London by J. Macock for John Martyn, Henry Herringman, and Richard Marriot. This massive volume features not only the 35 works - 34 plays and 1 masque - that were previously published in 1647, but also 18 additional dramas, for a total of 53 works. Adding many features that the first edition lacked, the lovely codex contains many songs and plays that had previously been abbreviated in full and provides cast lists to 25 of the dramas. The gorgeous frontispiece presents a finely rendered portrait of John Fletcher by William Marshall (1617 to 1649). The piece exhibits 557 numbered pages of black-printed Early Modern English text and is bound in brown leather. Size: 9.75" L x 3.125" W x 14.75" H (24.8 cm x 7.9 cm x 37.5 cm)
