Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok, Sukhothai Period, ca. 15th century CE. This is a beautiful ceramic vase with a dark green-brown glaze highlighting the intricate foliate banding and linear motifs. The vessel rests on a ring foot, and the body is a compressed, globular shape with eight vertical ridges that create an octagonal appearance. The neck is tall, tapering to a narrow mouth. The exterior is glazed with floral and geometric panels around the body, and the neck has vertical bands of leaf scrolls, ornate vines. The base has traces of a circular impression that indicates this piece was fired on tubular column inside the kiln. An elegant example! Size: 7" W x 11" H (17.8 cm x 27.9 cm)
