Western Europe, Germany, Late Medieval Period, ca. 14th century CE. This is an amazing, forged iron arrow bolt used in medieval warfare but made wearable with a modern sterling silver bail! This thick head was used as a crossbow bolt, the pyramidal tip could inflict some serious damage. The socketed body and diamond-shaped head tapers to the pointed tip, all enveloped in a rich russet brown patina. The tip of the socketing shaft is set in a modern sterling silver bail cap and strung on a modern cord with a lobster clasp. Crossbows were incredibly advantageous weapons when used against comparatively primitive bows and arrows as they surpassed the accuracy, firing rate, and lethality of even the most well-constructed bows. This is the ideal accessory for Medieval enthusiasts! Size of pendant: 3.25" L x 0.5" W (8.3 cm x 1.3 cm); cord: 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 92%
