Southeast Asia, Indonesia, east Java, Majapahit Empire, ca. 1293 to 1527 CE. A hollow-built pottery figure of a woman seated in a lotus position atop an integral trapezoidal plinth. The woman presents nude with a large abdomen, perhaps pregnant, as she holds either a piece of fruit or a petite lamp - known as a puja - in both hands close to her globular breasts. Her downcast, serene visage features protruding almond-shaped eyes, a slightly upturned nose, full lips, and tall ears, all beneath a coiffure bearing a central medallion. Her pose suggests she is praying over the puja before leaving it as a votive offering at a temple or shrine. Size: 4.6" W x 7.4" H (11.7 cm x 18.8 cm)
