Southeast Asia, Indonesia, east Java, Majapahit Empire, ca. 1293 to 1527 CE. A fabulous and finely preserved statue of a kneeling female figure wearing a loin cloth. She presents bare-chested with globular breast situated below square shoulders and is adorned with a thin belt around her waist, a thick collar necklace, armbands, bracelets, and sizeable earrings. She pushes the base of her womb with one arm while the other rests on her bulbous belly. Topped with a tightly bound coiffure, the ancient female exhibits pleasing features such as a petite nose, protruding almond-shaped eyes, puffy cheeks, full lips, and narrow ears. Majapahit artwork focused chiefly on gods, goddesses, and royalty, and this figure may represent a royal wife, adorned in the ornaments of her caste. Size: 2.25" W x 5.25" H (5.7 cm x 13.3 cm)
