Central Asia, Samanid Empire, likely Nishapur, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A stunning example of a blue glazed pottery bowl that rests on a ring foot, the walls flaring outward to an annular rim. The turquoise blue glaze is applied to the interior and exterior, stopping just above the foot, leaving the beige pottery exposed. Over the centuries a fine craquelure has developed across the surface and areas of iridescence glimmer within the interior basin, making this simple aqua blue bowl a truly stunning piece! Size: 7" W x 3.4" H (17.8 cm x 8.6 cm)
This bowl was part of the Ebrahim Rokhsar collection, an esteemed collector with pieces gifted to the Brooklyn Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art in his honor.
