East Asia, South Korea, Goryeo/Koryo Dynasty, ca. 918 to 1392 CE. A cast-leaded bronze mirror with a polished face, a petite handle, and an ornate back displaying a figural scene in high relief. The intricate relief features two robed figures facing one another surrounded by a pagoda, a dog, two clouds, and several abstract geometric designs. Bronze mirrors that were polished on one side and decorated on the reverse were a popular luxury item coveted throughout East Asia. While they originated in China during the early years of China's development of bronze technology, circa 1700 BCE or possibly earlier, the taste for such mirrors spread beyond China's borders to Korea and Japan. Size: 3.375" in diameter (8.6 cm)
