Near East, Persia (Iran), Nishapur area, ca. late 10th century to early 13th century CE. A beautiful wheel-thrown pottery jar with a concave footed base, an apple-shaped body adorned by dozens of pattern-molded ribs, a rolled shoulder, and a squat neck with a rolled rim. Though the foot is left bare, both the interior and exterior are enveloped in a bright turquoise glaze with gorgeous areas of craquelure and glistening silver and rainbow iridescence. The iridescence is absolutely breathtaking in person, making it a simply opulent example of fine Islamic pottery! Size: 6.5" Diameter x 7" H (16.5 cm x 17.8 cm)
