Carlos Merida (1891-1984) Serigraphy from the series of Trajes Regionales, 23 x 31 cm, signed and framed TEHUANAS, ESTADO DE OAXACA, 1945 Carlos Mérida (1891-1985) was a Guatemalan artist, one of the first painters in Latin America to incorporate modern European painting into Latin American themes, he was part of the mexican muralism movement. He migrated to Europe in 1910 where he met Diego Rivera, Dr. Atl, Roberto Montenegro and some other mexican figures, who were the ones who prompted him to go to Mexico in 1919 where he made his home. In 1945 he worked in a book called Trajes Regionales Mexicanos (Regional Mexican Dress), a portfolio which contain 25 brightly colored silkscreen prints of Mexican Regional Dress. It was an edition of 1000 copies and was published by Editorial Atlante in Mexico City.Good
