  About the Artist:

  Born in 1968 in Kathmandu, Nepal, Tsherin Sherpa trained under his father, Master Urgen Dorje, in traditional Tibetan thangka painting and studied Buddhist philosophy with esteemed masters. After moving to California, Tsherin began reimagining tantric motifs, symbols, and gestures in a contemporary style. His works explore the hybridization of cultures, reflecting the complex identity negotiations of displaced people.

  Tsherin’s art challenges the boundaries of tradition by abstracting and reconstructing traditional imagery to reflect his personal diasporic experiences and the intersection of the sacred and the profane. His work embraces fluidity and evolution, encouraging viewers to project their own interpretations onto the forms.
