About the Artist:
Don Farber, inspired by Dorothea Lange’s photography at age 16, dedicated his life to capturing Buddhist culture. After studying photography in the UK and San Francisco, he began photographing Buddhist life in Los Angeles, especially within Vietnamese, Thai, and Tibetan temples. Following the passing of his teacher, Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Thien-An, Farber resolved to document the lives of prominent Buddhist masters. In 1988, he launched the Dharma Heritage Project, focusing on Buddhist culture worldwide, capturing life in Japan, Thailand, Nepal, and more. Notably, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to document Tibetan refugees in India, including exclusive portraits of the Dalai Lama. His works have appeared in major museums, on covers of Time and Life, and in Buddhist publications like Tricycle. Later, Farber added filmmaking, documenting figures such as Zen Master Joshu Sasaki Roshi. His Dharma Heritage Project continues as a nonprofit, preserving Buddhist traditions through photography and film for future generations.
