Woodcut print
51 X 38 CM

Morning Herald" captures the vibrant energy of a new day. The piece uses hand-drawn textures that have been carved into the woodblock and hand-printed. There is a figure in the image, its form composed of fragmented segments, each filled with unique patterns that convey movement and vitality. This layered approach reflects the natural world’s complexity, while the bright colors evoke the warmth and optimism of dawn. As the cockerel stands as a symbol of awakening, Morning Herald celebrates the dynamic beauty of morning light and the promise of a fresh start.
About the Artist:
Kalsang is a woodcut printmaker based in the UK, blending traditional and modern techniques to create his work. Each piece begins with hand-drawn textures, capturing the intricate details and natural flow of his designs. These textures are then machine carved into wood, retaining the essence of the hand-drawn lines. Lately, he has been exploring the use of fragmented segments—breaking down these textures into parts and reassembling them into new compositions. This approach allows him to play with structure and movement, creating layered and evolving images. The final prints are hand-pressed using a brayer, merging the tactile quality of traditional printmaking with a contemporary approach to design.
