About the Artist:
Lobsang Tsewang is a painter and printmaker with a unique artistic journey. He was raised in a Tibetan refugee camp and immersed in monastic life alongside his monk brother in Nepal. Tsewang draws inspiration from the monastery's mural paintings. He received his BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology and is currently employed as an Exhibition Coordinator at the same institute.
This artwork combines elements of modern and traditional art techniques. While on a road trip in California, I encountered something that reminded me of Tibetan traditional art. It wasn't a figure but rather a tree. As I painted the tree, it brought back memories of the trip. I had driven past numerous solitary trees, so I decided to title the painting "Joshua Tree."
