A portrait of (Ama) Adhe Tapontsang, a Tibetan resistance fighter of the Chushi Gangdruk, on the the 100 CNY. Tapontsang spent 27 years in the Chinese labor camp before taking refuge in India. She passed away in 2020.
About the Artist:
Oliver “Liv” James, a DC-born visual artist, muralist, and activist, collaborates with groups like Greenpeace, NDN Collective, and Students for a Free Tibet to address Black social justice, climate change, and anti-colonization issues. Liv’s art spans stencil portraits honoring civil rights icons, layered grayscale stencils representing diverse skin tones, and bold banners with social messages. Through projects with organizations like Future History Now and Feeding Tampa Bay, Liv brings art to underserved communities and supports hunger relief. Driven by a vision of decolonization, Liv uses art to advocate for change and social equity.
