  C. 224 to 651 AD. Sassanian. Tall bronze piriform vase or jar with bulbous body, thin neck and flaring rim. The Sassanian Empire, which stretched from Mesopotamia to Afghanistan and was the main rival of the later Roman Empire and early Byzantium, was not just a military superpower but was a producer of high-quality craftwork in metal, glass and bronze, a tradition which this elegant vase fully embodies. Excellent condition, beautiful patina.Provenance: From an old Oxfordshire collection formed in the 1980s, Mr. R.U. Size: H:170mm / W:80mm ; 145g
