1800-1900 AD. Indian, post-medieval. Iron katar dagger with triangular blade and lateral grip held between two long sidebars. The blade is augmented with raised ridges to ensure that any blow delivered inflicts an irregular wound which is less likely to heal. The katar originated in Southern India, where its original name was the kattari; northern Indian variants are known as katara, and the name was anglicised as katar by the British. Good condition; on a custom-made stand. Size: H:375mm / W:80mm ; 340g
