c. 960-1279 AD. Song Dynasty. Celadon plate with shallow rim foot, wide bowl with radiating ridges near the edge of the bowl, and lipped rim. The fabric, visible on the bottom, is a reddish orange and the vessel is extensively covered in a light greenish-grey glaze. Celadon ware is a type of ceramics with a soft greenish-grey glaze, achieved through the addition of an iron-rich liquefied clay slip to the ceramic before firing. When fired, the iron oxidises to create a lustrous green coating. Although celadon ware was first invented hundreds of years earlier, it thrived under the Song Dynasty, who ruled much of Eastern China between the 10th and 13th centuries. Excellent condition. Size: H:60mm / W:265mm ; 1400g; Provenance: Old Dutch collection formed in teh 1990s.
