Condition
Condition: Fair
To the unaided eye this piece appears to be in fair condition. There is craquelure throughout the upper 1/3 of the canvas. Some of this is cupping, although these pigments seem to be stable. There are some places with missing pigments, on the left edge approximately 1/2 inch from the left and 11 inches down, and one in the center approximated 5¼ inches down and 13½ inch from the left. These fluoresce under ultraviolet light. Other areas of a long ago restoration do not fluoresce but are visible to the naked eye. These have inpainting work on them. They are located approximately 3 inches down and 13 inches over from the right and 4¾ inches down and 10 inches over from the right. Small woven patches are visible on the verso, opposite these inpainted areas. There is a line of cracking pigments along the upper left and across the top where the canvas has sagged upon the stretcher bars. The varnish is yellowed. The work is framed in a blue grey panel with antique gold edges. The frame is in good condition with normal wear.
