Condition: Very Good
To the unaided eye, this piece appears to be in very good condition for its age. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals multiple pinhead-sized areas of in painting throughout the sky and the mountains. There is one larger area, approximately 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch, located in the upper right corner of the piece that also shows signs of in painting and potential restoration work to a tear in the surface of the paper. The piece has slipped slightly in the frame exposing a pinhead-sized punture in both the upper left and upper right corners. The piece is framed in a semi-ornate dark antiqued gold leaf frame with a linen liner and a dark antiqued gold fillet. The frame is in good condition for its age with minor chips, abrasions and small puntures throughout, as well as one notable chip along the right edge, which measures approximately 1 inch by 1/2 inch. The linen liner shows some discoloration. Plate: A. Bierstadt, 1830-1902 Verso: [handwritten on back of piece] White Mts. NM; [multiple stickers affixed to backing] Christie's
