William Barron (English (London), active mid 18th century). A red japanned tallcase or longcase clock comprising a pagoda top hood with flame finials over a cornice molding, the dial door surrounds decorated with scrolled gilt decoration, the lunette decorated with brass strapwork and a top oval inscribed inscribed with the words "Tempus Fugit," the face with Roman numerals framed by an outer circle with Arabic numerals inscribed William Barron London, and smaller circle with subsidiary seconds the waist door with astragal top molding decorated with gilt chinoiserie scenes of houses, landscapes, and figures, surrounded by stylized foral the coved waist molding with gilt vegetal decoration, the base section with conforming gilt chinoiserie decoration, all raised on a molded plinth. Approximate height 92", width 20", depth 10".
Clock overall in working condition but running slow. Would recommend servicing. Weights and pendulum intact, one bell missing. Case with minor loss of lacquer at columns, to hood sides, and on molding, also with some lacquer lifting at sides and minor dents to base, all commensurate with age and typical use.
