American, circa 1969. Wendell Castle Molar group lounge chair in reddish orange gel-coated and molded fiberglass with black trim at the base. Approximate height 24.5", width 30.5" (arm to arm), seat depth 16.25", seat height 13.75". Note: Castle began working with production furniture and plastic in the early 1970s. His Molar Chair referenced earlier forms sculpted from stack-laminated wood and became the crown of this new line of molded plastic furniture, quickly deemed a modern classic and exhibited in galleries and museums whilst simultaneously being sold to the general public. Other designs within this line, i.e. Baby Molar, Cloud Shelf, and Two Seater increased the visibility and demand of Castle’s breakthrough plastic forms.
Structurally sound. Areas of surface scratches & some scuffing to back, however, not overly distracting. Approximately 1" black line on side close to bottom, possibly ink--probably easily removable. Slight areas of lifting to black rubber edging on base.
