Chinese, possibly Ming Dynasty(1368–1644). Unusual Chinese blue and white porcelain ginger jar, stoutly potted, the sides finely painted in underglaze blue with a continuous scene of 3 carp amidst plants and cloud scroll, the bodies characterized by scales, lateral and dorsal fins, the shoulders of jar with 3 oval reeded applied mounts under a band of diaper and scroll motif, the neck with geometric line decoration, surmounted with the lotus-form lid decorated with diaper and scrolled panels with pointed finial, the base with underglaze blue hand painted mark. Approximate height 13.25", 8" width.
Provenance: The consignor's mother began collecting Chinese antiquities back in the 1960's. The majority of her collection was acquired from her great paternal grandparents who were from the China city of Guangzhou, in the province of Guangdong.
