• Lot Description
  Japanese, Edo Period (1603-1868) or earlier. Group of two tsubas comprising one round iron tsuba, possibly Kyo Shôami School, of unusual saucer form with raised mimi (rim) and convex center, with central nakago-ana flanked to left by small rounded kôzuka-bitsu and to right by large rounded kôgai-bitsu, decorated to top with black and gilt polychrome remnants and to underside with bas relief precious objects heightened with silver; and one signed bronze tsuba of swelled kaku maru gatu form with central nakago-ana flanked to left by small tall ovular kôzuka-bitsu and to right by cloud form kôgai-bitsu, the top side with single rooster or cockerel in landscape in relief, the underside with indistinguishable signature to either side of nakago-ana. Rooster tsuba contained within a wooden box. Saucer tsuba approximate diameter 3.125". Rooster tsuba approximately 3.5" square. Provenance: From the Estate of Channing S.
