Tibetan, circa 15th century. A painting on thick fibrous organic material, possibly a fragment of a thangka, depicting 13 figures dressed in heavy drapery bearing haloes and united in a clouded heavenly setting, these figures likely a depiction of the 13 Buddhist Guardians from the Epic of King Gesar dating to the 12th century. Fragment approximate height 8.75", width 15.75". Framed approximate height 12.875", width 19.875".
Overall very fragile and delicate, but stable as currently presented - laid down to a later backing for stability. Textile and paint losses all over, most notably to edges.
