• Lot Description
  Thornton Utz (American, 1914 - 1999), "Portrait of Man in Library", oil on masonite board, signed lower right. Portrait painting depicting a man, possibly a professor or businessman, seated in his library (study), dressed in a dark suit with an olive colored tie and browline glasses, seated at desk with desktop pen stand, with full wall library-style shelving in the background. Unframed approximately 36" x 24". Framed approximately 44.75" x 32.75". Note: Thornton Urtz was one of the most successful cover artists of the 1950s, having earned commissions for forty-five Saturday Evening Post covers. As an illustrator, he was noted for his ability to capture the humor in everyday life.
