Natura morte still life depicting purple grapes, oranges, limes, cherries and cabbage at left of wooden table in foreground, two pheasants lie to the right of table. Central pheasants head slightly hanging off tables edge, brown woven mat under large central pheasant, green pottery vase behind fruit and birds, muted background. Framed approximately 19" x 23". Unframed approximately 12" x 18". Provenance: From the Estate of Henry G. Muecke Jr., Atlanta, Georgia.
Painting has been relined. Mild oxidation to verso of stretcher. Shiny surface visible in raking light indicative of a varnish layer. Under blacklight examination, areas of in painting to all edges, likely in repair of frame rubbing. One repair with in painting to upper left between grape stem and brown leaf and extending up into background. One repair at right above fruit in background. Scattered inpainting to composition including one area below bird's face at lower center, one to second bird's body over two small round abrasions, and some to woven basket at lower right. Repairs neither obvious nor distracting. No other apparent repairs, tears, abrasions, or losses.
